Sacred Homes, Sacred Temple

Conference Message by Elder Gary E. Stevenson General Conference April 2009 |
During Christ visit on his other sheep or the Nephites and Lamanites nation. Why would the Saviour instruct the people to "Go into" their "Homes" in preparation for the next day of his instruction? Why not in their synagogue or church, or to go to their prophets or Leaders? Perhaps they could receive a good instruction to them, but why Homes? (reference below)
Behold, now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked round about again on the multitude, and he said unto them: Behold, my time is at hand.
2 I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time.
3 Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again.
4 But now I go unto the Father, and also to show myself unto the lost tribes of Israel, for they are not lost unto the Father, for he knoweth whither he hath taken them.
3 Nephi 17:1-4
So why Homes? Elder Gary E. Stevenson on the same conference message he says this citing Bible Dictionary under the word Temple (pg. 781) -
Under the definition of “Temple” in the Bible Dictionary, we read the following: “It is the most holy of any place of worship on the earth,” followed by this insightful statement: “Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness.” For me this suggests a sacred relationship between the temple and the home. Not only can we turn the doors of our homes to the temple, or the house of the Lord; we can make our homes a “house of the Lord.”
Christ knows which place is more holy or sacred than any other. The question is -
- Was Our Homes reverent enough or was it a perfect place to receive God's blessings equal to temple's environment?
Elder Gary E. Stevenson added the same question and he says this -
Wherever your home may be and whatever its configuration, the application of eternal gospel principles within its walls is universal. Let’s begin. Imagine that you are opening your front door and walking inside your home. What do you see, and how do you feel? Is it a place of love, peace, and refuge from the world, as is the temple? Is it clean and orderly? As you walk through the rooms of your home, do you see uplifting images which include appropriate pictures of the temple and the Savior? Is your bedroom or sleeping area a place for personal prayer? Is your gathering area or kitchen a place where food is prepared and enjoyed together, allowing uplifting conversation and family time? Are scriptures found in a room where the family can study, pray, and learn together? Can you find your personal gospel study space? Does the music you hear or the entertainment you see, online or otherwise, offend the Spirit? Is the conversation uplifting and without contention? That concludes our tour. Perhaps you, as I, found a few spots that need some “home improvement”—hopefully not an “extreme home makeover.”
Whether our living space is large or small, humble or extravagant, there is a place for each of these gospel priorities in each of our homes.

Thank you for visiting my article and have a Great Day. This is a re-emphasize post on my last article about "Why Home?"
Teaching in the Savior’s Way: Love Those You Teach
Everything the Savior did throughout His earthly ministry was motivated by love—His love for His Father and His love for all of us. Through the power of the Holy Ghost, we can be filled with this same love as we strive to be true followers of Christ (see John 13:34–35; Moroni 7:48; 8:26). With Christlike love in our hearts, we will seek every possible way to help others learn of Christ and come unto Him. Love will be the reason and motivation for our teaching.

Random Picture: A fish in a bowl
The other day, as I got home from work, I saw this fish in a bowl and Jasher said that he caught it where he used to find fish in some other places he used to play with, and he told me that he got it while exploring other sea creatures. So I took a picture of it for reference 'cause he planned to eat it.

To our Dearest Friend: Sting of Death no More
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

And Nothing Shall Offend Them
From General Conference Message, October 2006, ”And Nothing Shall Offend Them” by Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles -
When we believe or say we have been offended, we usually mean we feel insulted, mistreated, snubbed, or disrespected. And certainly clumsy, embarrassing, unprincipled, and mean-spirited things do occur in our interactions with other people that would allow us to take offense. However, it ultimately is impossible for another person to offend you or to offend me. Indeed, believing that another person offended us is fundamentally false. To be offended is a choice we make; it is not a condition inflicted or imposed upon us by someone or something else.
You and I cannot control the intentions or behavior of other people. However, we do determine how we will act. Please remember that you and I are agents endowed with moral agency, and we can choose not to be offended.
He then refer to the Book of Mormon and one of the Story of Captain Moroni asking for assistance from Pahoran as the chief Governor of that time, but haven't heard a response of his request.
During a perilous period of war, an exchange of letters occurred between Moroni, the captain of the Nephite armies, and Pahoran, the chief judge and governor of the land. Moroni, whose army was suffering because of inadequate support from the government, wrote to Pahoran “by the way of condemnation” (Alma 60:2) and harshly accused him of thoughtlessness, slothfulness, and neglect. Pahoran might easily have resented Moroni and his message, but he chose not to take offense. Pahoran responded compassionately and described a rebellion against the government about which Moroni was not aware. And then he responded, “Behold, I say unto you, Moroni, that I do not joy in your great afflictions, yea, it grieves my soul. … And now, in your epistle you have censured me, but it mattereth not; I am not angry, but do rejoice in the greatness of your heart” (Alma 61:2, 9).
Moroni received a Letter from Pahoran |
Pahoran didn't choose to be offended, though, during those hard times of trouble and life-threatening days, he kept himself calm and humble. Elder Bednar added -
One of the greatest indicators of our own spiritual maturity is revealed in how we respond to the weaknesses, the inexperience, and the potentially offensive actions of others. A thing, an event, or an expression may be offensive, but you and I can choose not to be offended—and to say with Pahoran, “it mattereth not.”

Threat of Moral Decay
Threat of Moral Decay
President Nathan Eldon TannerSecond Counselor in the First Presidency
N. Eldon Tanner, Conference Report, April 1965, pp. 18-22
It was a great blessing indeed to have our beloved leader and prophet, President David O. McKay, with us this morning and to be inspired by his message so beautifully read by his son Robert. His spirit and blessings are with us this afternoon. He is presiding. This conference is being conducted under his direction, as he watches our proceedings over television at home. Our hearts go out to him, and we pray that God's choicest blessings may attend him always.
Brethren and sisters, it is with a deep feeling of humility and heavy responsibility that I stand before you this afternoon, and I sincerely pray that the Spirit and blessings of the Lord will attend and direct our thinking at this time.
I wish to congratulate the choir on their lovely singing and to express my appreciation for the beautiful prayers and the inspiring talks given by the brethren during the first session of our conference this morning.
On behalf of the First Presidency I bring greetings and blessings to all assembled in this historic Tabernacle this afternoon and to our radio and television audiences everywhere.
Gratitude for Many Blessings
My heart is full of gratitude for the many blessings I enjoy. I am grateful that I live in this land of peace and plenty, opportunity and freedom; for my membership in this Church, for the knowledge I have, a knowledge beyond doubt or question, that God is a personal God, that he lives, and that he so loved the world that he gave his Only Begotten Son for you and me, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life John 3:16 Yes. I know as I know I live, and as Peter also knew when he answered Jesus: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" Matt. 16:16
I am so thankful for my wife and family, for my progenitors, for my grandchildren, my friends and associates, for the health and strength that my family and I and all of us enjoy; also, that my family and I can kneel down and pray to a personal God who we know is interested in us, who will hear and answer our prayers, who has given us the gospel which, if lived, will lead to immortality and eternal life. What a strength it is to know that we are God's spirit children, that we are made in his image, and that we can go with our problems to him as our Father in heaven.
Many times have I expressed my gratitude to my Heavenly Father that my forefathers had such a belief in God and such a determination to worship and serve him according to the dictates of their own conscience and without restrictions that they were prepared to give up everything they had and leave their native land and come with the Pilgrims in the Mayflower to this great land where they could enjoy that freedom of worship. Though they suffered many hardships, the rigors of cold and starvation and influenza from which more than half of them lost their lives, the survivors thanked God for the privilege of religious freedom, which to them was sufficient reward for all the untold suffering through which they had come.
Let us never forget that these freedoms which we enjoy, the blessings and comforts and ideals which are ours, as well as the progress which has been made in every field of endeavor, have been gained by the sacrifice, the pain, tears, and agony of some souls who had every reason to be discouraged but who had faith in God and fought on to victory.
Gratitude for Faith and Courage of Ancestors
Again here and now I wish to express my appreciation to my Heavenly Father for the fact that my great-great-grandfather, John Tanner, and his son, Nathan, and their families had the faith and courage to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shortly after it was organized, and when it was so unpopular.
The records which we have tell us that they were honest, honorable, upright, and God-fearing men; that they were good citizens; that they were interested in their community; and that they believed in and served God as they understood. Though they had read and studied the Bible and believed that it was the word of God, they were confused because of the teaching of the different churches that God was an incorporeal being with no material body, parts, or passions. In fact, as Paul told the Athenians, many were then, as they are today, ignorantly worshiping an unknown God, or denying him entirely (see Acts 17:23-31
However, when he heard the message of two Mormon missionaries that God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ were living personages and that they had appeared to the young boy Joseph Smith when he went into the grove to pray, as Christ had appeared to Paul, John Tanner believed them. And when he was told of the restoration of the priesthood and that God had spoken to man again and had chosen an individual, Joseph Smith, as a prophet, seer, revelator, and translator by whom the Book of Mormon had been translated, he knew that this was true. It brought joy and satisfaction to his soul and brought renewed faith and hope when he realized that the true and everlasting gospel in its fulness had been restored to the world.
How grateful I am that his faith in God and his understanding of the gospel and his desire to serve God and keep his commandments were so great that he and his family did not hesitate to join the Church and go through all the persecutions that the Saints endured at that time. They, with thousands of others, were driven out of their homes and, leaving everything they had, were driven west across the plains to the Rocky Mountains to this the Great Salt Lake Valley, where they could enjoy freedom of worship for which they had sacrificed so much.
Testimony of Truth
As a result I have been taught since my youth to have complete faith in God the Eternal Father and in his Son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost and to realize that Christ gave his life for us and was resurrected, literally resurrected, and through his atonement we will all be resurrected, and that all mankind may be saved by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel A of F 1:3
I wish to bear my testimony, too, that I know that God speaks to his people today through a prophet as he has done in the different dispensations of which the Bible and the Book of Mormon bear witness so clearly. I cannot express in words my deep appreciation for the privilege I have of associating so closely with his Prophet David O. McKay who leads the Church today under divine guidance.
It is a great opportunity, privilege, and blessing to be able to dedicate my time and efforts entirely to sustaining him as a prophet of God in the service of our Maker and of our fellow men and of working so closely with these devoted General Authorities to whom you have listened and to whom you will listen in this conference.
Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance
I pray that God will give us wisdom and direct our efforts as we endeavor to lead the people in the paths of truth and righteousness. We are greatly concerned about conditions in the world today, particularly the evils and temptations facing our youth. We realize that the great threat of the future today is the decay of spiritual, moral, and family life.
Awful Specter of Crime
It is alarming to see how crime is increasing throughout the whole of the United States and, for that matter, throughout the world. In the USA there was an increase in 1964 over 1963 of 250,000 serious crimes that were reported by the agencies. And the statistics as issued by J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, show that in a city the size of Salt Lake City the increase in crime was up from 12 to 17 percent. There was 17 percent more murder, 14 percent more forcible rape, and 17 percent more robbery in 1964 than in 1963.
Appalling World Conditions
Conditions in the world are appalling. We have men who from the pulpit are questioning the divinity of Jesus Christ. They do not understand the kind of God they worship, and people everywhere have lost their faith and don't know where to turn. Also it is shocking indeed to read the articles appearing in the magazines and papers today on the question of morality. One can hardly believe what he reads.
In order to make clear and to leave no doubt as to what I mean I shall refer to statements that have appeared in books and magazines and have been attributed to university professors, chaplains, and psychiatrists, many of which seem to challenge Christianity's basic teachings against fornication and adultery.
A new morality is being advocated which proposes an ethic based on love rather than law in which the ultimate criterion for right and wrong is not divine command but the individual's subjective perception of what is good for himself and his neighbor in each given situation.
Some maintain no sexual relationship should be absolutely condemned by the church. Others claim that moral conduct is the sole concern and responsibility of the individual. Some argue that man is free to change occupations, homes, states, or countries and ask why he should not be free to change married partners.
We all realize and are most thankful that these views are not generally accepted and, in fact, are strongly opposed by most people. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in commenting on the alarming new line on morals says: "For my part, I have had too much experience with raw human nature to believe you can scale down moral standards in any area and not reap a whirlwind of broken lives." ("The Alarming New Line on Morals," Deseret News, February 26, 1965. Permission granted by Norman Vincent Peale.)
And as Paul admonished the Galatians: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
"For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" Gal. 6:7-8
Dr. Peale goes on to say, "The sophisticated-intellectual hue and cry that we must get rid of the old sense of guilt is less than impressive. Guilt can be a pretty healthy deterrent that puts the fear of God into people, stiffening their moral sense and motivating them to live right." (Peale, op. cit.)
He then asks the question: "Should the church still teach a high standard of personal morals?" and answers, "It may shock you even to have the question raised, but unfortunately a few ministers are verging toward a permissiveness that disturbs a lot of thoughtful people. The effort seemingly is to keep the church somewhat in line with paganistic viewpoints in an effort, I suppose, to maintain an influential rapport with these elements. The policy seems to equate Christian morality with worldly morality rather than the maintenance of a system of moral absolutes. In effect, the new permissive policy seems to reduce Christianity to the world rather than to employ the tougher and more skillful strategy of bringing the world up to Christianity." (Idem. Italics added.)
World Perishing by Reason of Folly and Defiance of God's Laws
Imagine young people in our schools and universities who have not been taught in their homes or in their churches an unwavering faith in God and the importance of good, clean, moral living having to face this kind of thinking and temptations and evil that is found throughout the world today. This must be shocking to the parents who realize that such things are going on. There is a very serious and great danger, however, and that is that many, many of our parents do not realize, nor will they believe, that these are the conditions in the world today and therefore seem to be prepared to let nature take its course.
Where are we going? What is the matter with the world? How different are we from, and how rapidly are we approaching, the pattern of life which caused the downfall of Rome? This was forcibly brought to the attention of me and all who listened to Dr. Charles Habib Malik of Lebanon, professor of philosophy at the American University of Beirut. He was president of the United Nations General Assembly in 1958-59. In his message he said to all Americans:
"The world is turning its back on you because you are turning your back on yourself. Do not turn from the basics that have made America great—an abiding faith in God and in the dignity of man, created in the image of God." (Cited by Wendell J. Ashton, "Weakness through Strength," back page, The Instructor, January 1965.) He appealed to America and the world not to let the power of material wealth and learning corrode because of a diminishing faith in God. Imagine this having to come from a man from Lebanon or from any other country!
World Can Save Itself by Honoring God's Laws
It is true that all through history the ignoring of the laws of God leads to the ignoring and defying of all law. The scriptures and history teach us that man cannot continue to deny God and ignore his laws and expect to prosper. And as William Penn so aptly said: "Those who are not governed by God will be ruled by tyrants." No one can deny that the Sermon on the Mount, the Ten Commandments, and all of the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ offer a better way of life and if lived, bring greater joy, success, love, prosperity, and peace to all and lead to immortality and eternal life.
Gratitude for Allies of God. Their Devotion and Dedication
We greatly appreciate and wish to express our wholehearted support to all who are engaged in the fight against evil, and we want you to know that the Church of Jesus Christ is determined to do all in its power through its auxiliary organizations, its priesthood quorums, its missionary program, and through the families of the Church to uphold righteousness and live and teach the fundamental principles of the gospel, which is the plan of life and salvation.
We greatly appreciate the thousands and thousands of individuals throughout the Church who are prepared to accept office and responsibility in the Church and faithfully live the gospel and teach it to all who will listen, and also to the hundreds of thousands of parents everywhere who are endeavoring to live and teach a faith in God and the principles of right living to their families.
Fortify Solidarity of Families with Home Evening Programs
My wife and I have been thrilled during the lasts month or so to receive letters from two of our daughters and a phone call from another saying how pleased they are and thankful for the program which helps in teaching the gospel and right living in their Family Home Evening once every week. Here they gather their children around them and teach them the plan of salvation, realizing that parents having children in Zion are commanded to teach them to understand the doctrines of repentance, faith in Christ the Son of the Living God, and of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands D&C 68:25
Also, it gives them an opportunity to get better acquainted with their children, to know what they are thinking, and to let the children know what the parents are thinking, what they believe, and what is right. And the children really enjoy it. They are taught that we are the children of God and that as his children we have that spark of divinity in us which makes it possible for us to reach immortal heights by living according to the teachings of the gospel of his Son Jesus Christ.
It is encouraging to know that my grandchildren, twenty-four of them, are being taught to pray to God and thank him for his many blessings and ask for his guidance and strength from day to day, to have faith in him, to realize that they have a purpose in life, and that the principles taught by Jesus Christ are the principles by which we must govern our lives. Where can you find a lovelier sight than a family kneeling together in prayer to their Father in heaven in the full knowledge that he can and will hear and answer their prayers?
Families throughout the Church are being taught these things, and they are taught to be honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and to do good to all men. They are also taught that if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, to seek after these things A of F 1:13 and that to meet the evils and temptations in the world today we must have faith in God and live according to the principles of the gospel as taught by Jesus Christ.
May we all have the vision, the faith, and the courage to so order our lives, I humbly pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Come Follow me insights: July 10-16
In case you missed it, here is an outline of my study for this week's "Come Follow Me" program. I only covered a few, so we could share more knowledge this upcoming Sunday School.
The Purpose of Delegation. (Acts 6:1-4)
And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.2Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
In order to spend more time with youth, wherever they are, including at school events or activities, bishoprics have been counseled to delegate appropriate meetings and counseling time with adults. While bishops can counsel on acute and urgent matters, we recommend that delegation of ongoing counseling with chronic, less urgent matters that do not involve judgments as to worthiness be assigned to members of the elders quorum or Relief Society—usually presidencies or ministering brothers and sisters. The Spirit will guide the leaders to select the right members to undertake this counseling. Those who receive this delegated counseling assignment are entitled to revelation. They, of course, must always maintain strict confidentiality. - "Bishops—Shepherds over the Lord’s Flock" by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Questions to ponder -
- Why would the Lord allow the Delegation of one's calling to someone?
- Can an authority be delegated? What's the Limitation?
- How can I delegate a specific call? What's the best way to delegate a call?
- What/How would it affect the person to whom the call was delegated?
General Handbook 3.4.3.2
Assignment
Presiding Church leaders can delegate authority by assignment. When men and women receive these assignments, they are given authority from God to act. For example:
- The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles delegate authority to Seventies who are assigned to administer areas and to preside at stake conferences.
- Mission presidents delegate authority to male and female missionaries who are assigned to lead and train other missionaries.
- Authority is delegated to Church members to serve as ministering brothers and ministering sisters. This occurs when they are assigned under the bishop’s direction by the elders quorum president or Relief Society president.
Authority that is delegated by assignment is limited to the specific responsibilities and duration of the assignment. For more information about assignment through delegation, see 4.2.5. (see below)
General Handbook 4.2.5
Delegate Responsibility and Ensure Accountability
The Savior gave His disciples meaningful assignments and responsibilities (see Luke 10:1). He also gave them an opportunity to account for the work they were given to do (see Luke 9:10).
As a leader, you can help others grow by delegating assignments to them. In this way you will also help them receive the blessings that come from serving. Strive to engage all members in doing God’s work.
Delegating will also make your service more effective. If you try to do too much, you will “surely wear away” (Exodus 18:18). Seek the Spirit’s guidance about what to delegate so you can focus on your highest priorities.
Delegating is more than giving an assignment. It also includes teaching and trusting another person to fulfill the assignment. It usually includes the following elements:
- Meet with the person to invite him or her to serve the Lord in an assignment. Help the person understand the assignment and its purposes, including how his or her service will bless others.
- Counsel together about the assignment, who else could be involved, and when it should be finished. Ensure that the person understands and willingly accepts the assignment. Express confidence in his or her abilities.
- Encourage the person to seek inspiration about how to fulfill the assignment. Show your trust and help the person succeed. Provide direction and support as needed.
- Periodically ask the person to report on the assignment. Accept the person’s best efforts, and express appreciation for what he or she has done.

As my wife and I talked about her feeling of inadequacy and her feeling that she couldn’t make it, I recalled something that had happened in our family just a couple of months earlier. We call it the parable of the bicycle.
After I had come home one day, I was sitting in a chair reading the newspaper. My daughter Sarah, who was seven years old, came in and said, “Dad, can I have a bike? I’m the only kid on the block who doesn’t have a bike.”
Well, I didn’t think I could afford to buy her a bike, so I tried to stall her by saying, “Sure, Sarah.”She asked, “How? When?”I said, “You save all your pennies, and pretty soon you’ll have enough for a bike.” And she went away.A couple of weeks later as I was sitting in the same chair, I was aware that Sarah was doing something for her mother and getting paid. She went into the other room, and I heard “Clink, clink.” I asked, “Sarah, what are you doing?”She came out and showed me a little jar all cleaned up with a slit cut in the lid and a bunch of pennies in the bottom. She looked at me and said, “You promised me that if I saved all my pennies, pretty soon I’d have enough for a bike. And, Daddy, I’ve saved every single one of them.”My heart was filled with love for her. She was doing everything in her power to follow my instructions. I hadn’t actually lied to her. If she saved all of her pennies, she eventually would have enough for a bike, but by then she would want a car! Her needs weren’t being met. So I said, “Let’s go downtown and look at bikes.”We went to every store in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Finally we found it—the perfect bicycle. She got up on that bike, and she was thrilled. But when she saw how much the bicycle cost, her face fell, and she started to cry. She said, “Oh, Dad, I’ll never have enough for a bicycle.”So I said, “Sarah, how much do you have?”She answered, “Sixty-one cents.”“I’ll tell you what,” I said. “You give me everything you’ve got and a hug and a kiss, and the bike is yours.” She gave me a hug, a kiss—and the sixty-one cents. I paid for the bicycle. Then I had to drive home very slowly because she wouldn’t get off the bike; she rode home on the sidewalk. And as I drove along slowly beside her, it occurred to me that this was a parable for the Atonement of Christ.
- Believing Christ
By Stephen E. Robinson
A Practical Approach to the Atonement

In my right Hand, I sustain thee.
There's a question that pops up in my mind for about a week or month ago that I couldn't help but do research on the church standards and instructions. And here I would like to open up those questions, that perhaps could help us understand what God wants us to do or to establish.
Here are the questions that I think will help us to learn more -
- Does God teach the use of the right hand in performing any ordinances or in sustaining?
- Why do we use the right hand in sustaining and in partaking of the sacrament?
- Was a left hand allowed to do just as the right should do?
The word "Right Hand" was mentioned approximately for about 117 times in the Old Testament, 44 times in the New Testament, about 17 times in the Book of Mormon, 14 times in Doctrine and Covenants, and 3 times in Pearl of Great Price which includes the Joseph Smith - Matthew translation.
And as I had observed most of these lines were actually of different topics, scenarios, contexts, or usage with both left hands. I don't mind actually how the scripture used those words the only thing that bothers me was, does it meant something about orthodox teachings and how it was emphasized in its importance, especially the part as to why they used the term to sit in God's right hand in His kingdom, though some passages say to sit both sides either in the left or in the right hand.

Sustaining
I'm not sure as to where the church got its common practice of using the right hand in sustaining a leader. Upon further study, it was already instructed for so long as if it was a solemn practice. One particular instruction found in John Taylor's message said this -
“We hold up our right hand when voting in token before God that we will sustain those for whom we vote; and if we cannot feel to sustain them we ought not to hold up our hands, because to do this, would be to act the part of hypocrites. … For when we lift up our hands in this way, it is in token to God that we are sincere in what we do, and that we will sustain the parties we vote for. … If we agree to do a thing and do not do it, we become covenant breakers and violators of our obligations, which are, perhaps, as solemn and binding as anything we can enter into” (Journal of Discourses, 21:207). Quoted by President Gordon B. Hinckley From a conference Message "God Is at the Helm"
It was the right hand as instructed in his message and there everyone follows as a standard in sustaining a leader. And, for me, whatever instructions in general just to have a house of order, then why not follow them?
And what are the General Instructions that we have today?
The Church is a community of love and support. You will not be alone as you strive to serve in your calling. After you accept a calling, members of your congregation will indicate in sacrament meeting that they agree to sustain, or support, you in your calling. Members indicate this support by raising their right hands when invited to do so by a member of the bishopric or branch presidency. ("How Can I Serve in the Church?", From Learning and Serving in the Church)
Sustain: To support others in their callings. Members acknowledge that they will sustain others in their callings by raising their right hand when invited to do so in sacrament meeting. ("List of Terms", From Learning and Serving in the Church)
In ancient times, the Lord instructed Moses to battle against the people of Amalek. Joshua was fighting with the Israelites while Moses receive instructions from God to hold up his hand to prevail over their Enemy. Moses as he left his arm felt that he couldn't take it longer with his strength stricken in years. This means he was not capable of raising his arms long enough while the war was still ongoing, and to survive the battle, there must be a need for assistance, or supports from someone on Moses' side and that's where Aaron and Hur went on lifting Moses Arms so they could win the battle.

While doing exactly what the Lord requires and with the help of those people who supported Moses in his task. The result was obvious, the battle was concluded with the Israelites leading the win.

Likewise, in these later times. We also had a lot of instructions received and had a lot of trials to lift while battling our spiritual battle. And there's one solution to win. And, as simple as the people of Israel in Moses' times, so it was in our days. Supporting or sustaining the leaders was the winning factor of this unseen battle. We may have questions such as "How and why is it important?" Or maybe, "Why this instruction seems like a burden in our soul?" yet like Aaron and Hur, never complained why Moses need to do it instead of God doing a battle for them. They did it patiently and humbly hoping the battle will soon end. And so they win.
There are some other references that I couldn't include in this article, actually I not planning to make a long post, but it seems it is then. 😂
Ordinances
Anyways, Here's another one that said not just sustaining but also some other practices that everyone adapted previously -
I will now say a few words with regard to partaking of the sacrament. This ordinance was instituted by our Savior, and his followers were commanded to partake of it in remembrance of Him. Luke 22:19 But how many of us partake of it regardless of Him in commemoration of whose death it is administered! I have seen some of the Saints take the cup very irreverently—blessed and consecrated as it is—and drink to quench their thirst. I do not suppose that such persons think any more about our Lord and Savior than they do when drinking on ordinary occasions. To say the least of such conduct, it is highly improper and irreverent. I have seen brethren and sisters partake of the sacrament with their gloves on, and in a very careless attitude, stretching out the left hand. You should always put forth the right hand when taking either the bread or the cup; and you should take off your hats if you have them on, and partake of the consecrated emblems with reverence, and remember that you do it in commemoration of the death, sufferings, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who will yet rule and reign on this earth, King of kings and Lord of lords. Rev. 19:16 Would I partake of the sacrament with my hat or gloves on? No; I would take them off, and let my soul ascend in prayer and thanksgiving to my heavenly Father that I had been permitted to partake [p. 135a]of the ordinance of the House of God.
This was from the topic titled "Eternal Life—How To Find Out The Truth—The Sacrament—Exhortation to The Young." by President Daniel H. Wells, delivered in the Bowery, Great Salt Lake City, August 18, 1867, And was reported By: David W. Evans. This was collected in a Journal of Discourses Archive and the Church has no official statement regarding some of the reports as part of Doctrines or perhaps documentary and/or opinion. Yet, about this subject and as I supposed this was also one of the sources of that practice in observing the Sacrament, in a solemn manner and orderly. It's good to have standards to keep in maintaining a reverent environment with humility and respect while partaking the sacrament. But what's the Church standing about it?
Here's what the General Handbook says -
7. Members partake with their right hand when possible. (General Handbook 18.9.4 Instructions)
This means YES, but there's a catch. We were instructed as of General Handbook, August 2022 that we have to use our Right Hand with the word "when possible", which leads us to our last question. Just to make it straight and simple, people with disabilities, or have trouble using their right hand or maybe a common arm condition. Then of course we don't need to judge them.

Partaking of the Sacrament. |
For me, I am not an antagonist but perhaps I could be a heretic to what I believe. But for me, God knows the desire of our hearts and he has the right to judge our desire. If I may mistakenly use the wrong hand in sustaining or observing the Sacrament, it is God who looks on me and my heart as he knows it. Of course, just as the title of this Article, it was instructed and we have to observe and obey. Amen.

What is the Apostles Specific Calling?
Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Doctrine and Covenants 27:12 And also with Peter, and James, and John, whom I have sent unto you, by whom I have ordained you and confirmed you to be apostles, and especial witnesses of my name, and bear the keys of your ministry and of the same things which I revealed unto them;

Word's in his talk below -
I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way.
God grant that all of us may walk in the light as God our Father is in the light so that, according to the promises, the blood of Jesus Christ his Son will cleanse us from all sin.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, amen.

Peacemakers Needed
From Conference talk April 2023, title Peacemakers Needed, By President Russell M. Nelson President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
... Civility and decency seem to have disappeared during this era of polarization and passionate disagreements.
Vulgarity, faultfinding, and evil speaking of others are all too common. Too many pundits, politicians, entertainers, and other influencers throw insults constantly. I am greatly concerned that so many people seem to believe that it is completely acceptable to condemn, malign, and vilify anyone who does not agree with them. Many seem eager to damage another’s reputation with pathetic and pithy barbs!
Anger never persuades. Hostility builds no one. Contention never leads to inspired solutions. Regrettably, we sometimes see contentious behavior even within our own ranks. We hear of those who belittle their spouses and children, of those who use angry outbursts to control others, and of those who punish family members with the “silent treatment.” We hear of youth and children who bully and of employees who defame their colleagues.
My dear brothers and sisters, this should not be. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are to be examples of how to interact with others—especially when we have differences of opinion. One of the easiest ways to identify a true follower of Jesus Christ is how compassionately that person treats other people.

Be Grateful in all things.
Just this week, my wife talks to me about the food that she distributed last Sunday and she's happy to give some parts of our blessings. She intended to help those in need. She listed names as who will be chosen few that she felt who are in need. And after all the efforts and Joy she felt, and to our surprise, there was just one person who made an effort to thank her for the blessings they receive from my wife.
Part 6 - Job Bautista: Christ was God
![]() |
Jehovah Creates the Earth |
One Job Bautista's classic quote about the nature of Christ as the Son of God or (God as most of Christians do believe).
So if you ask me to believe by just some part of the scriptures that says about just one being in the beginning but never understood the words Christ made through his apostles is absurd. Christ was the same being as yesterday, today and forever, The Alpha and Omega.
I don't think it was, I think you fail everything on your cherry picked idea. Such a poor ideology.

Represent Him Well
From a Conference Message title "Accessing God’s Power through Covenants" by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

“You should not identify yourself as a disciple of Jesus Christ unless you intend to represent Him well.”
We become His disciples and represent Him well when we intentionally and incrementally take on ourselves the name of Jesus Christ through covenants. Our covenants give us power to stay on the covenant path because our relationship with Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father is changed. We are connected to Them by a covenantal bond.
One False Prophecy = False Prophet?
I made a comment on this one that tries to open up a strawman fallacy. In which he didn't even bother looking up any of the evidence of his claim.

Luke 21:25 ¶ And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

John 1:43 ¶ The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.49cNathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
How Reverence got its link to obtain Revelations?
A question was raised: How Reverence got its link to obtain Revelations?
Here's some message from Boyd K. Packer, he said this -
Revelation and reverence are inextricably combined. You will not in irreverence receive much revelation. Reverence has behavioral manifestations in meetings and there is also a depth of personal reverence that is an essential if you are going to receive revelation. Reverence means submission, it means obedience.

Jesus Christ is the Savior
I like to start posting some of the reply, but then I did I think some conversations were too rude or offensive. Just to be honest, I am simply defending my rights of religion and the belief that I know about the nature of Godhead.
Here you see some of the scriptural passages.
