It is interesting that sometimes because we have consistently done things to the point that they have turned into traditions, we allow these traditions or activities to dictate our efforts to build faith in Jesus Christ. It seems that we do these things because we have done them for many years, without considering their impact on our covenantal connection with the Savior.
While it is true that some traditions were totally part of our culture or sometimes practices, but we should consider asking the question "WHY are we still doing it?" and "How will it affect my spiritual growth?" So we have to make a choice since it was given to us to fulfill righteousness. The message is simple, and additional insights from the scripture that says -
27 Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;28 For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.29 But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned.- Doctrine and Covenants 58:27-29
And adding some conclusion on the same conference talk. He said -
The more we can connect the reason with our love for the Savior, the more we will be able to receive what we need or are seeking.
