Was Hagar recognized as wife of Abraham?

Hagar is recognized as one of the wives of Abraham. According to the Old Testament, Hagar was originally an Egyptian maidservant of Sarah, Abraham’s wife. Because Sarah was unable to have children at the time, she gave Hagar to Abraham as a wife in order to bear a child. This was a customary practice in ancient times for ensuring an heir. Hagar bore Abraham a son named Ishmael.

You can find this account in Genesis 16. Despite some complexities and tensions that arose in their household due to this arrangement, Hagar's role as a wife to Abraham is acknowledged in the scriptural narrative.

Here are some key verses from Genesis 16 that detail Hagar's relationship with Abraham and her recognition as his wife:

Genesis 16:1-4 (KJV)
    1. Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
    2. And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
    3. And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
    4. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
These verses make it clear that Hagar was given to Abraham as a wife by Sarah (Sarai), and she conceived a child, Ishmael, with him.
